Dirty Care

‘Dirty Care’ is a transdisciplinary format by international FLINTA* artists that addresses the spectrum of protection. The term ‘Dirty Care’, as coined by Elsa Dorlin, describes a form of care arising from personal experiences of oppression and the consequent need for self-defence. In order to feel safe in society, FLINTA* often has to take up this form of care-work. ‘Dirty care’, therefore, means being nice and caring out of fear of being threatened or hurt. The artists will work with local collaborators to develop a format that deconstructs and reconstructs, (re)appropriates, and rethinks concepts of protection, transforming Lothringer 13 Halle into a space for intervention through sculpture, installation, and performance.

”Dirty Care” ist ein transdisziplinäres Format mit internationalen FLINTA* Künstler:innen, das sich mit dem Spektrum Schutz auseinandersetzt. Der von Elsa Dorlin geprägte Begriff “Dirty Care” beschreibt eine Form der Fürsorge, die aus den eigenen Erfahrungen der Unterdrückung und dem damit verbundenen Bedürfnis nach Selbstverteidigung entsteht. Diese Form von Care-Arbeit muss häufig von FLINTA* geleistet werden, um sich in unserer Gesellschaft sicher fühlen zu können. “Dirty Care” bedeutet also, aus Angst, bedroht oder verletzt zu werden, nett und fürsorglich zu sein. Gemeinsam mit lokalen Akteur:innen entwickeln die Künstler:innen Skulpturen, Installationen und Performances, die sich mit dem De- und Rekonstruieren, (Rück-)Aneignen und Umdenken von Schutzkonzepten auseinandersetzen.

Performance – Dirty Care – WISH MOPBP by Carolina Cappelli

WISH MOPBP is a workshop-based performance with a group of FLINTA* residents over the age of 50 with experience related to cleaning and the use of the voice, at a professional and/or amateur level. Starting from the figure of the "cleaner" and the ergonomics of the objects typically associated with housekeeping, the project will explore the invisible work and the secondary female roles related to protection and the reappropriation of fear.

WISH MOPBP ist eine Performance, die auf einem Workshop mit einer lokalen Gruppe von FLINTA*-Personen im Alter 50+ basiert. Ausgehend von der Figur der Reinigungskraft und der Ergonomie der Objekte, die typischerweise mit ihr in Verbindung gebracht werden, untersucht das Projekt das Konzept der unsichtbaren Arbeit und die sekundären weiblichen Rollen im Zusammenhang mit dem Schutz und der Rückaneignung von Angst.

Neighborhood Walk – Dirty Care – NEOPHYTE by Nora Byrne

In this casual walking lecture, participants will learn about select invasive species found along the Isar and through the neighborhood near Lothringer 13 Halle. Discussion will include identification points, cultural uses, reflection on plants’ migration histories and influence on local biodiversity.

Bei diesem casual Nachbar:innenschaftsspaziergang lernen die Teilnehmenden ausgewählte invasive Pflanzenarten kennen, die entlang der Isar und in der Nachbarschaft der Lothringer 13 Halle vorkommen. Zur Diskussion stehen Erkennungsmerkmale, kulturelle Verwendungszwecke und Überlegungen zur Migrationsgeschichte der Pflanzen und zu ihrem Einfluss auf die lokale Artenvielfalt.

What are the specific spatial expansions of accumulations and collections? How can I hold something? The lecture is a broad exploration of the phenomenon of containment and storage.

Die Lecture ist eine breite Untersuchung des Phänomens der Aufbewahrung und des Speicherns. Fast alles ist ein Behälter. Angefangen beim Körper bis hin zu Kabinetten, Louis Vuitton Taschen, Stabburen und Milchkannen. Welches sind die spezifischen räumlichen Ausdehnungen von Anhäufungen und Sammlungen?
